May 29 is the date PoE2 players have circled, because patch 0.5.0 goes live at 4 p.m. EDT and brings Return of the Ancients with it. If you're sorting stashes, checking PoE2 Items, or just wondering when to log in, the same launch lands at 1 p.m. PDT, 9 p.m. BST, 10 p.m. CEST, and early on May 30 for Japan and Australia. Fate of the Vaal ends right before the patch arrives, and its characters aren't being wiped. They move into Standard Early Access or Hardcore Early Access, which is a relief if you've put time into a build.

The big shift isn't just "more stuff." It's the way the game handles endgame. Return of the Ancients is aimed at making the Atlas less like a wall you hit after the campaign and more like a path you can follow. After finishing the story, players should run into guided storylines that introduce older league mechanics, then push toward weaker versions of pinnacle bosses. That matters. A lot of newer players bounced off the old endgame because it didn't really tell them what a good goal looked like. This patch seems built to fix that, or at least make the finish line easier to see.

Runes of Aldur is the league launching with 0.5.0, and rune crafting is clearly one of the headline systems. The tricky part is that several details still aren't nailed down in the available material. We know Aldur's Legacy and unique item runes are important topics, but not exactly how they work, where they drop, or what limits they have. The same cautious approach applies to the new ascendancies. Spiritwalker and Martial Artist are confirmed, but their node lists, base class links, scaling rules, and best league-start routes still need proper data. So, yes, theorycrafting is fun. Locking in a build too early? That's a gamble.

The launch also comes with a free weekend running from Friday, May 29 to Monday, June 1 at 4 p.m. EDT. Based on the available source, Windows PC and Xbox Series X players can jump in without an Early Access key, and progress stays on the account. That's a good chance for curious players to test the feel of PoE2 without buying in first. What we don't have is just as important: no confirmed maintenance start time, no downtime length, no preload window, no patch size, and no clear queue timing. If you're planning the day around launch, don't assume the servers will be smooth the minute the clock hits release.

There are plenty of hot topics floating around: Gravebind Magic Find nerfs, passive tree changes, Armour/Evasion hybrid clusters, Subterfuge Mask, Acolyte of Chayula rumours, minion buffs, Two-Stone Rings, Flux items, Facebreaker, and Auspex. Some may be huge. Some may turn out to be smaller than the videos make them sound. Until official notes or reliable database updates confirm the numbers, players should treat those as watch-list items rather than facts. If you're planning to trade, craft, or buy cheap Path of Exile2 Items during the opening weekend, keep your setup flexible and don't build your whole plan around unverified mechanics.
